MEA Consumer Battery Market Analysis

The Middle-East and Africa Consumer Battery Market is expected to register a CAGR of greater than 6.5% during the forecast period.

The Middle East and Africa consumer battery market is experiencing significant transformation amid broader economic recovery in the region. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are leading this economic resurgence, with Saudi Arabia projected to achieve GDP growth of 3.4% and the UAE 2.2% by 2022. This economic revival is particularly evident in the residential sector, where major infrastructure projects like Saudi Arabia's NEOM city project, designed to accommodate more than a million residents, are driving increased demand for consumer electronics and subsequently, household battery products.

The region's raw material production capabilities are strengthening, particularly in South Africa, where mining activity has shown substantial growth in platinum group metals, iron ore, gold, and manganese ore production. This is especially significant as iron ore, which makes up 25% of alkaline primary battery, and other materials like zinc and manganese, which constitute 60% of battery composition, are seeing increased local production. This development is helping to establish a more robust supply chain for consumer battery manufacturers in the region.

The hospitality and tourism sectors are emerging as significant demand drivers for portable battery products. The United Arab Emirates, known for its world-class hospitality infrastructure including iconic properties like Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab, continues to expand its tourism facilities. These establishments require a constant supply of secondary battery for various applications, from remote controls to electronic safety systems. The sector's growth is further supported by Saudi Arabia's development of Qiddiya City, set to be completed by 2023, which includes the construction of several hotels with 5,000 residency capacities.

Environmental consciousness is increasingly shaping market dynamics, with several countries implementing stringent policies for battery disposal and recycling. In Israel, the Environmental Treatment of Electrical and Electronic Equipment and Batteries Law has been strengthened to promote environmentally suitable treatment of electronic waste. Similarly, in the UAE, initiatives like the partnership between Duracell and Bee'ah are driving battery recycling programs, aligning with the country's Vision 2021 for sustainable development. These environmental regulations are pushing manufacturers to develop more eco-friendly products while creating new opportunities in the battery recycling sector.
