- December 2022 - Dr. Blade Nzimande, Minister of Higher Education, Science Innovation, acknowledged the decision to grant South Africa the SKA-Mid infrastructure contract as part of the development of the mid-frequency part of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope in Carnarvon, Northern Cape.
