  • August 2022 - Nestle Ice Cream Uses Paper Pack, Online Wine Merchant Launches Paper Bottle; Paper Manufacturer creates translucent barrier paper. Nestlé Hong Kong announced that its Kit Kat stick ice cream packaging is moving from plastic to paper, a first for the Innovation Zone. The packaging comprises 100% pure pulp, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Further, British online wine merchant Laithwaites announced that it launched its first wine offering in a paper-based bottle. The bottle is made of 94% recycled board with a recyclable plastic pouch.
  • July 2022 - Sonoco announced that the company was expanding post-consumer recovery and recycling options for paper cups in mixed paper bales for use as raw materials at its Hartsville, South Carolina, paperboard facility to create new paperboard. According to prior verification, rigid paper cans in mixed-paper bales from home Material Recovery Facilities are accepted at all of Sonoco's paper mills in the United States. The Hartsville mill will now take paper cups with this most recent declaration.

  • February 2022: Tetra Pak co-invested over EUR 11.5 million with recyclers and industry players to help set up four new recycling solutions for carton packages in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, and Australia. The company built recycling capacity from scratch via cross-border cooperation in Saudi Arabia, expanding capacity by 50% in Turkey and tripling the production capacity for the cartons' PolyAl element in Ukraine to leverage a public/ private partnership in Australia.
  • February 2022: Arla Foods, a prominent vendor in the Saudi Arabian F&B market, announced that it had selected Aseptic Food Filling Technology from SIG. This highly durable and lightweight aseptic carton pack had many advantages, including retaining the premium quality, taste, and aroma of liquid food products and all-natural nutrients, flavors, vitamins, and colors. Furthermore, the packaging blocked light and air, ensuring products could be stored long without preservatives or refrigeration.
  • February 2023 - Amcor and MHI partnered on trials to determine a novel recycle-ready blister package that could be produced in large capacities and at high speeds to promote sustainable pharmaceutical packaging. A key aspect of Amcor's sustainability success is that the company's blisters and lids are made from HDPE. If they differ, the entire product is sent to the landfill rather than the recycling center.
  • January 2023 - Vermacare'srange of safe medical containers, Sharpsafe, announced its fifth generation of harm-reduction pharmaceutical containers for hospitals. This new Sharpsafe is manufactured from recyclable materials with reduced carbon footprints.

  • October 2022 - Tetra Pak, a multinational provider of food processing and packaging solutions, declared that it would establish a joint venture with Egyptian paper board producer Uniboard to recycle used beverage cartons (UBC) in Egypt for a sum of EUR 2.5 million (USD 2.59 million). When the plant reaches full capacity in five years, it will recycle 8,000 tonnes of UBC yearly after beginning the first operation the next year.
  • June 2022 - The Board of Directors of the paper and cardboard division of the Chamber of Printing & Packaging Industries of the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI), led by the division's head Jamal Al-Saudi, prepared a case study on strategies to develop the paper and cardboard industry and the challenges it faces, for submission to the responsible authorities for their timely action. Al-Saudi pointed out that the study contains 15 recommendations for solving all the major problems faced by the paper and cardboard industry in Egypt and ways to develop them and increase the sector's exports.
  • October 2022 - Sealed Air launched its first ready-to-roll paper wrapping systems to streamline packaging supply for low- and medium-volume e-commerce retailers and fulfillment companies. According to Sealed Air, the QuikWrap Nano and QuikWrap M systems require minimal assembly and do not need electricity or excessive maintenance. Each can produce double layers of FSC-certified honeycomb paper and interleaf tissue paper, which are claimed to be 100% kerbside recyclable and are expected to provide enhanced protection for the products they package.
  • January 2022 - Crown Paper Mill (CPM) planned to construct a tissue mill with an annual production capacity of 60,000 MT in Saudi Arabia. The company signed a Memorandum of Association (MoU) with Valmet to engineer, manufacture as well as supply the tissue machine. Crown Paper Mill is expected to start manufacturing during the first quarter of 2024.
  • SEP 2022 - The Huhtamaki Foundation inaugurated its first recycling plant in Maharashtra, India, to help drive circularity for packaging. The site, which is spread across 2,000 sqm, will recycle about 1,600 kg of post-consumer used flexible plastic waste per day from early May when the plant becomes fully operational.
  • JUN 2022 - Keiding Inc. announced the opening of its second location in Menomonee Falls. According to the company's new release, the new plant is expected to create 20 jobs at a facility spanning 58,000 sq ft.
  • June 2022 - US-based hybrid packaging supplier Berlin Packaging acquired Verrerie du Comtat, a France-based provider of glass packaging for wine and olive oil markets.
  • April 2022 - Ardagh Glass Packaging North America, a business of Ardagh Group, announced the addition of new products to its portfolio. The company now offers two new beer bottles, a 12oz long-neck bottle and a 22oz Belgian-style bottle, on its BuyOurBottles site.
  • January 2022 - Berlin Packaging, one of the world's largest hybrid packaging suppliers, completed its acquisition of the Le Parfait business and brands from O-I France SAS. Le Parfait is known for its iconic glass jars and lids manufactured by O-I France SAS and its affiliates.
  • December 2022: India launched the Plastics Pact, the first-of-its-kind initiative in Asia, to ensure the effective recycling of plastic packaging with the support of stakeholders. By 2030, this pact aims for 100% plastic packaging to be reusable or recyclable in India.
  • August 2022: Supple Pack, previously known as National Vinyl industries, was listed among India's top 10 packaging companies by Industry Outlook. It manufactures bottles/cans ranging from 5 ml to 75 l through the Extrusion Blow Moulding Process. Also, the company is one of the leading companies in manufacturing a wide range of caps and closures, including flip-top caps manufactured using high cavitation molds that come with full hot-runner and in-mold closing systems. The company includes a strong foothold in manufacturing retortable PP bottles. 'To complement its high volume production of caps and closures, the company plans to venture into the single-stage stretch blowing technology to help it capture the high volume market of pharma bottles.'
  • January 2022 - Berry and TotalEnergiesannounced their collaboration to make food packaging more circular and divert waste from landfills. TotalEnergieswill supply Berry with certified circular polymers obtained through advanced recycling of post-consumer plastic waste that is otherwise hard to recycle via existing processes. This will help reduce waste and allow Berry to use more recycled plastic in its food and beverage packaging as well as healthcare products.
  • June 2022 - Aptar has developed new mono-material solutions or modified existing ones with more recycled resins in order for sustainable product development and has expanded its resin portfolio, with new PCR Plus resin specifically designed for the cosmetic industry and continuing a three-year partnership with PureCycle, to accelerate the use of Ultra-Pure Recycled Polypropylene (UPR) into dispensing solutions.
  • Dec 2020- Private investment firm Graham Partners continues its targeted investments in technology-driven advanced manufacturing companies and has acquired Berry Global Group Inc. The business will be combined with Graham Partners' flexible packaging portfolio company, Advanced Barrier Extrusions LLC (ABX), which Graham Partners acquired in August 2018. The business will operate under the ABX name in the future.
  • March 2021- Greiner Packaging announced that it has expanded its range of sanitizer bottles to meet the increased demand. The new product range includes 16 bottles, including sanitizers, and comes in different sizes and shapes with capacities ranging between 100 and 1000 milliliters. These bottles are all produced using the ISBM process and have round bodies, which can be made from up to 100% r-PET.
