  • September 2023: DHL Express initiated shipping operations this week from Miami to Argentina, marking a significant step in its cargo-hauling expansion from South Florida to Latin America. The company's strategic move aims to enhance efficiency and reduce delivery times between the two locations.
  • September 2023: In a pioneering move, DHL Express introduced six weekly freighter flights between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires (EZE). These flights, operated by DHL Aero Expreso based in Panama, utilize a B767-300 freighter with a remarkable 52-ton capacity per flight. The service includes a stopover in Santiago, Chile (SCL), before making its return journey to the United States.
  • September 2023: The flights were to be conducted on DHL Boeings 767-300; Argentina was the first country in the DHL network to have its aircraft. The aircraft is expected to have a payload capacity of 52 tons. The flights will likely take place six times a week and will connect the United States with Ezeiza Airport as well as the most important hubs of the region. This means that packages and documents can be delivered to various countries in the region within 24 hours, significantly reducing transit times. DHL offers companies high-quality transportation between the USA, Argentina, and the major DHL hubs of the region all year round, without relying on commercial air traffic during peak times.
  • May 2023: EnviAR, Argentina’s new parcel delivery tracking and traceability system, was launched by the Minister of Public Innovation. EnviAR will allow parcel delivery to be tracked and monitored by postal and courier companies, including those that don’t currently have traceability systems in place.

  • February 2023: Savills Investment Management successfully concluded the acquisition of a portfolio comprising three last-mile distribution warehouses previously owned by Roebuck Asset Management and GFH Financial Group. It included properties situated in Alicante, Murcia, and Valladolid, covering a combined warehouse Gross Leasable Area (GLA) of 23,220 square meters. The Alicante property, strategically located in the established logistics area of Mercalicante, positioned 4 km west of Alicante city, caters to a population of 300,000 residents.
  • July 2023: MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company is the first shipping company in the world to launch ID-based container pick-up. This technology allows MSC containers to be released for transport using ID and biometric data rather than a PIN code, improving security across the supply chain. The project is now entering the final phase of its rollout, the objective of which is to enable a 100% PIN-code-free, secure process for container release.

Maersk's refrigerated containers - equivalent to hundreds of thousands of units - are connected to Maersk's Remote Container Management system. It tracks the conditions within the reefers to ensure ideal conditions for moving sensitive cargo from A to B.
  • February 2023: The Port of Savannah will build seven container racks in its Garden City Terminal to increase available refrigerated and frozen warehouse space by 11% to more than 2.2 million sq ft by 2023. According to a port press statement, the project, which was approved in late January, is priced at USD 6.2 million and will add 3,506 berths to the terminal.

August 2023: Frigomundo cold store announced plans to expand its capacity by 20,000 pallet positions. The expansion will likely be completed in two phases, with the first phase being completed in early 2024. The expansion is expected to allow Frigomundo to meet the growing demand for cold storage space in the Netherlands.

February 2023: HSF logistics announced the expansion of temperature-controlled warehouses in the Netherlands. The company will likely open two new warehouses in Venlo and Rotterdam, adding a total of temperature-controlled storage space. The expansion is in response to the growing demand for temperature-controlled logistics services in the Netherlands.

  • March 2023: The Nigerian government has established specific committees comprising executives from both public and private businesses to build and run airports with cutting-edge cargo infrastructure, which is helping the nation's air cargo competitiveness. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) recently established committees to address the primary obstacles that have continued to impede Nigeria's growth of its air cargo infrastructure to increase air cargo traffic and infrastructure. According to experts, Nigeria is possibly at a disadvantage in the developing free trade area known as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) because of several things that could be improved in its air cargo value chain.

According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigeria imports around 131 million tons of air cargo each year but only exports 16 million tons.

March 2023: Cainiao Network, the logistics arm of Alibaba Group Holding Limited, announced that it has partnered with South Korea’s CJ Logistics, a subsidiary of CJ Group whose business spans four major industries, namely food and beverage, biotechnology, logistics, and entertainment and media, to streamline and optimize cross-border logistics services between China and South Korea. In addition, both parties are in the midst of discussions with AliExpress to establish fulfillment centers in South Korea to further safeguard logistics services for local consumers.
