People nowadays have become more conscious of the potential risks of contaminated tap water. According to WHO, in 2022, at least 1.7 billion people globally used drinking water sources contaminated with feces. Therefore, consumers are drawn to bottled water due to the easy portability, convenience, and safety assurance of packaged drinking water. Furthermore, due to the increasing tourism at the global level, food service channels, such as hotels and restaurants, offer quality service to their tourists. These channels contribute to the high share of sales in the bottled water category, primarily from the still-bottled water segment. For instance, according to the Ministry of Tourism and the Bureau of Immigration of India, the number of foreign tourist arrivals in India increased from 2.74 million in 2020 to 6.19 million in 2022. Hence, the number of drinking water bottles produced by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited increased to 357.7 million in FY2023 from 275 million in FY2020. Moreover, companies are adopting various strategies to market their products, such as sponsorships and advertising. For instance, in January 2022, Danane SA launched its new bottled sparkling water through its brand Evian in the United Kingdom. The company promoted the product through various advertisement campaigns across social media platforms and televisions to penetrate the market.
