Veterinary Scales Market Analysis

The rise in the prevalence of animal death and diseases owing to both drug overdose as well as excessive food consumption is expected to propel the market growth. According to a report published in the Whole Dog Journal in 2017, a dog diagnosed with a mass on its spleen went into cardiac arrest during surgical procedure owing to an overdose of medication to address a series of non-critical arrhythmias. In order to avoid such incidents, and to determine the effective dose (or dose range) of veterinary medicines, generally, a dose calibration study is employed in mg of active ingredient per kg of body weight per day. Then the inclusion rate in feed can be calculated, taking the required daily dose (mg/Kg body weight/day) and the expected daily feed consumption (kg per head) into consideration, thus making the prescription of the right dosage of medication, deworming and supplements possible.

Similarly, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), one of the most common concerns pet owners should have, is overfeeding, which is excessive food consumption with respect to the actual requirements by the body. The primary solution to this growing problem is to correct the pet’s diet. Owing to the fact that overweight animals consume more calories than they require, pet’s caloric requirements as per their body weight should be determined.

In addition to the aforementioned factors, weighing animals is also a significant aspect associated with various operations such as monitoring an animal’s health, determining formulation and amount of feed for livestock, discovering and monitoring animal pregnancies, tracking the growth of new-born and baby animals, administering medications for sick animals, suggesting exercise for overweight/underweight animals. Additional, increase in awareness about animal health, product innovation, and competitive pricing are expected to propel the market growth over the forecast period.
