  • In February 2022, Hexion Holdings Corporation (Hexion) completed the sale of its epoxy-based Coatings and Composite businesses, which includes the epoxy specialty resins and base epoxy resins and intermediates product lines, for approximately USD 1.2 billion to Westlake Chemical Corporation.

  • February 2022: Kemira announced the initiation of full-scale production of its newly developed polymer-based (polyacrylamide) on biobased feedstock. With this production, Kemira further strengthened its position as the provider of sustainable chemistry solutions for water-intensive industries.

March 2023: SLB (Schlumberger Limited) introduced the EcoShield geopolymer cement-free system, which can reduce the CO2 footprint of constructing a well. This new technology eliminates up to 85% of embodied CO2 emissions in comparison to conventional well-cementing systems that use Portland cement. The EcoShield system has the potential to prevent up to 5 million metric tons of CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to removing 1.1 million cars from the road per year.

  • May 2023: Bosk Bioproducts was granted an "OK Compost" and "OK Biobased" certification by TÜV Austria for its REGEN bioplastics range of products. The company's products are now industrially compostable as well as four-star biobased certified.
  • March 2023: The government of Canada funded the Afri-Plastics Challenge initiative, which is aimed at reducing the amount of plastic waste both on land and in the ocean in and around the African continent. As a part of this challenge, bioplastics made from invasive plants from Lake Victoria were amongst the recipients of GBP 4 million (USD 5.07 million) in funding to reduce plastic pollution.
  • May 2023: Sulzer signed an agreement with major lactic acid producer Jindan New Biomaterials to facilitate the production of polylactic acid (PLA). Jindan aims to utilize Sulzer's licensed PLA technology at its new manufacturing plant in Henan Province to produce up to 75 kilotons of PLA per year, mainly to be used for food packaging, molded goods, and fiber production.
  • March 2022: Sulzer was selected by the Yangzhou Huitong Biological New Material to supply technology and key equipment for its polylactic acid (PLA) production facility in Jiangsu Province, China. The facility will have a production capacity of 30 kilotons per year. Sulzer Chemtech agreed to offer design and provide lactide purification, polymerization, devolatilization, and post-reaction proprietary technologies as part of the licensing agreement and also include extensive service support.
  • October 2022: Braskem announced its plan to expand the production of its I'm greenT biopolymers at its production facility in Brazil. The company is investing an amount of USD 60 million in expanding its I'm green biopolymer production capacity by 30%.
  • September 2022: Bioreset invested more than BRL 2 million (0.42 USD million) to develop bioplastics at its production facility installed in Jacareí. The company has set up a pilot plant in partnership with large companies and is preparing to start a facility with a production capacity of more than 100 tons of organic bioplastic pellets starting in 2023.
