Key Market Trends

Rise in Exports of Perishable goods driving the demand for cold chain logistics services

As per the Brazilian Association of Food for Commercial Establishments (ABIAD), Brazil is the third largest fruit producer in the world after China and India while it exported only 3% of what it produced. On the other hand, a majority (76 percent) of beef produced in Brazil is still consumed domestically, but exports have steadily increased, with key destinations being China, Hong Kong, Egypt, Chile, United States, and the EU. The main reason for the country not being able to export perishable goods to the maximum of its capacity was because of the lack of infrastructure and technological developments leading to the fear of loss of stock, transport temperature control, delivery delays, lack of route visibility and cargo security.

Efforts are being made to square these limitations with respect to the preservation of perishable food in terms of loading, unloading and transportation of these items. The companies are also focusing on specialized packaging in order to increase the shelf life of the product while maintaining the appropriate temperature.

Although the First half of 2020, did saw a decline in Fruit exports, mainly due to lockdown in European countries, Q3 was able to generate the same export figure as there was in 2019 of the same quarter.
