Sedan sales driving the Market Demand

Rising income levels and an urge to live life to the fullest increased top-end sedan models' sales with a sunroof. However, Sport utility vehicles constitute one of the most popular automotive segments due to a wide range of vehicles of unmatched versatility in range, power output, and features.

In Mexico, the average age towards owning a car is decreasing at a steady rate. With the introduction of the newer design, many brands are competing against to appeal to the younger and trendy customer group giving a rise to the top end sedans models.

Most of the sedan models have been offering sunroof as an optional feature in the country. For instance, all models by Mercedes Benz, ranging from the A-Class to the Maybach, offer sunroof feature as an optional or a standard based on the model level. Similarly, Audi offers this feature in A3 Sedan, A4, A6, A8 L, Q3, Q5, Q7, S5, RS6 Avant, and RS7 Sportback.

Developments Towards Panoramic Sunroof

Panoramic sunroofs are significantly larger than the traditional sunroof. With a larger sunroof, it can cover the entire roof of the vehicle. Panoramic dual sunroof or multi-pane sunroof system can use more than one roof panel that can open above both the seats and has tilts and slides open. Major companies such as Nissan Maxima, Inalfa Roof System, and Webasto offer dual sunroof known as a panoramic sunroof.

However, Panoramic sunroofs are prone to shattering or sunroof ejection, particularly during vehicle crashes or accidents. Thus, vendors in the market focus on developing panoramic sunroof airbags to enhance passenger and driver safety. Therefore, it is a significant development targeted towards reducing the risk of fatalities caused by sunroofs. In April 2020, Hyundai Mobis is working on the world's first sunroof airbag, and NHTSA is testing its feasibility. The airbag would deploy 'under the surface side of the vehicle' in a rollover and cover a roof in 0.08 seconds.
