Poultry Healthcare Market Analysis

The poultry healthcare market is expected to witness a CAGR of 8.5% during the forecast period.

COVID-19 has affected the poultry healthcare market significantly. The supply chain was disrupted due to the restriction imposed worldwide, leading to difficulties in moving animal products, such as meat, milk, and eggs, to markets during the initial period. For instance, according to an article published by MDPI, in March 2022, COVID-19 severely impacted the poultry production sector. The impact was more severe in developing countries due to the dependency on exporting necessary supplies such as feed, vaccines, and drugs. Thus, trade limitations led to the economic crisis, which adversely impacted poultry industries, including the agricultural value chain, such as the livestock production sector. However, with the declining COVID-19 cases, there has been an increase in trade and agricultural production, leading to proper care and nutrition for the chickens, eventually rising the demand for poultry healthcare, thereby driving the growth of the market over the forecast period.

Factors that are propelling the market growth are the increasing initiatives by government and animal welfare associations, the rising occurrence of zoonotic diseases, and the rise in demand for poultry-derived food products. The number of zoonotic disease cases in poultry animals has risen significantly in recent years. For instance, according to WHO update in December 2022, globally, till November 2022, there have been 868 cases of human infection with avian influenza A(H5N1) virus reported from 21 countries and as of December 2022, a total of 240 cases of human infection with avian influenza A(H5N1) virus have been reported from four countries within the Western Pacific Region. Thus, the rising occurrence of avian influenza is expected to increase the risk of spreading the virus to humans, which in turn is anticipated to increase the demand for effective diagnostic and therapeutics to prevent the impact of the virus in birds, thereby fueling the market growth.

Additionally, an article published by Frontiers Media S.A. in November 2021, reported that both commercial broilers and layers tested positive for Newcastle disease virus (NDV) using the M gene rRT-PCR. In addition, as per the same source, based on M gene identification, flocks with mild respiratory issues had a greater prevalence of Newcastle disease virus (15.7%), followed by healthy (9.1%) and sick (3.0%) flocks, in India. Thus, the high prevalence of Newcastle disease in poultry birds is expected to increase the demand for early detection and treatment of the disease to avoid its transmission to humans, which in turn is anticipated to propel the market growth over the forecast period.

Furthermore, the rising company activities in developing products and increasing product launches also contribute to the market growth. For instance, in October 2021, Cargill launched poultry feed with essential oils, Nutrena Naturewise, for healthy flocks and maximized egg production. The improved Nutrena NatureWise formulas help in boosting the overall wellness, happiness, and productivity of backyard chickens. Also, in October 2020, the company Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health launched the VAXXITEK HVT+IBD+ILT vaccine against Laryngotracheitis, Marek's Disease, and Infectious Bursal Disease.

However, the use of counterfeit medicines and lack of veterinarians, and a shortage of skilled farm workers are likely to impede the market growth over the forecast period.
