Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a+griculture in Brazil suffered from farm labor shortage during the harvesting and input supply crisis, which, in turn, hampered the usual production of the country. The repeated lockdowns and shutdowns of processing units affected the supply chain and limited trade movements to other countries. Moreover, the lack of storage facilities led to a major quality loss of the country's produces.

Brazil is a major player in the global agricultural trade. The most significant products in the sector are rice, maize, soybean, sorghum, sugarcane, potato, corn, tomato, watermelon, and onion. The country accounts for 50% of the global soybean market, and it became the second-largest corn exporter in 2021. Further, the country has also become the consolidated leader in coffee and sugar production. In terms of food crops, Brazil is the largest soybean producer and exporter as it took first place, with a record production of 126 million metric ton. It exported 84 million metric ton in 2020, and now it accounts for 50% of the global soybean trade.
