August 16 2018: The Global Aircraft De-icing Market is expected to reach a CAGR of about 6%, as per a new report published by Mordor Intelligence, LLP. The market is expected to grow owing to factors, like increasing need for de-icing operations in the extensive snowfall regions to avoid delays and ensure safe departures and development and expedient change of airplane terminals across the world expected to reinforce growth prospects over the forecast period.
The airports in North America and Europe are the most affected airports due to heavy snowfall. In many instances, the airports have shut down their operations and canceled all the flights due to adverse weather conditions. For instance, In December 2017, Glasgow Airport suspended all flights after heavy snowfall. With severe weather conditions across the north of the United Kingdom, the airport was forced to halt operations for two hours. However, special winter operation teams were sent in to clear the runway. Similarly In January 2018, in the United States, airlines canceled 4,000 flights because of the winter storm spanning the East Coast. The New York City was among the hardest hit. John F. Kennedy International Airport suspended flights due to white-out conditions, high winds and nearly 5 inches of snow have diverted 71 flights to different airports. Other airports that made most cancellations were Boston Logan with 733; LaGuardia with 696; and Kennedy with 597. Due to such calamities, the demand for de-icing equipment is expected to grow during the forecast period.

Recently, Bangor International Airport (BGR), has placed an order for Global ER-2875 de-icer that is precisely designed for larger aircraft, like Antonov An-225, Airbus A-380, C17, and C5 military airplanes and similarly large cargo planes. This de-icer has the longest side reach and highest cab/nozzle height of any mobile de-icer in the world, bringing the operator’s eye level as high as 78 feet. It uses a hydraulically-driven centrifugal compressor mounted on the operator platform, and the de-icing system uses forced air (either alone or in combination with de-icing fluid) to remove all forms of frozen contamination from the critical surfaces of the aircraft.
