GCC has negligible production of cereals and other agriculture products. Water constraints and unavailability of agriculture land are the major constraints in crop production in GCC. Consumption is increased of all the crops and it will grow at a CAGR of XX.XX % CAGR till 2020. Imports are also increased in GCC.

Depletion of agriculture land is a major constraint for GCC. Crops like Cereals were not produced in GCC and due to lack of water resources other crops are also getting effected. Hydroponic systems are getting attention in GCC and companies also started using them for vegetable and fruits production as this process requires less quantity of water and no land or soil.

Increase in population and future prospects in food industry are reasons for increase in consumption. The food crisis of 2007 forced GCC to import Wheat at a very high price as major exporters like Russia, Ukraine, India, etc. stopped food exports which forced GCC to import food items from international market at a very high price. GCC is a net importer of Cereals like Wheat, Barley, Millet, Maize and Sorghum.

Import of cereal crops like Wheat, Barley, Millet. Maize and Sorghum are going to increase as there is no production of these crops and consumption is increased. Prices of all the crops were increased from 2009 to 2010.

Drivers:

GCC Agriculture Market is developing due to Increase in consumption, advanced technologies, low water requirement in Horticulture process and Government Initiatives. GCC is using Desalination for potable drinking water, which helped the country to increase agriculture production. Horticulture is the new trend in agriculture production which have given boost to the production. Most of the Agriculture land belongs to Kings of GCC. Government is giving free land, free pesticides, seeds, water, machinery etc. to farmers for agri production.

Restraints:

GCC is a net importer of food products. Low ground and surface water availability, limited rainfall, limited arable land and low production are the biggest restraints for agriculture production in GCC.
